What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is based on the work of Tom Bowen, an Australian who developed the technique in the 1950s in Geelong, Victoria. 

It is often described as a soft tissue therapy that works on the connective tissue layer of the body, facilitating whole-body healing, muscle relaxation, and pain reduction.

The technique involves a series of moves known as Bowen moves. The specific areas where the moves are applied during a session depend on the client's individual needs, determined after an initial consultation.

Bowen Therapy is gentle and adaptable, making it suitable for people of all ages, with varying levels of mobility and cultural sensitivities.

 A key differentiator is the pauses between moves, allowing the body to respond and make changes. 

Clients often experience bodily changes for up to five days following a session, during which it is advisable to avoid other forms of bodywork to let the body process the changes initiated by Bowen.

The primary goal of Bowen Therapy is to stimulate the nervous system, helping the body return to a state of balance by triggering the restorative mode, which facilitates the body's ability to heal itself. 

Sessions can be conducted over light clothing or directly on the skin, based on the client's comfort, and Bowen Therapy does not involve the use of oils or forceful manipulation, adhering to the principle that "less is more."
